Behind the four hit pitching of J.R. Reimer, Lake Forest downed Niles Braves Red 4-1 in the North Suburban Colt League championship game. It was Lake Forest's second title in the past three year. Niles Braves Red downed Morton Grove 20-10 in one semi-final game while Lake Forest blasted Highland Park 17-3 in the second semi-final contest. With a Tuesday evening win over Glenview, Waukegan clinches the third seed. First round playoff pairings are: #1 Lake Forest - Bye #2 Niles Braves Red vs. #7 Niles Braves Blue #3 Waukegan vs. #6 Morton Grove #4 Loyola vs. #5 Highland Park With wins over Waukegan and Glenview, Lake Forest moved its record to 10-2 after four weeks of play. At the other end of the standings, Niles Braves Blue earned a come from behind win over Highland Park on Sunday. Lake Forest swept a Saturday doubleheader against Morton Grove and then won a rain shortened Sunday game in Waukegan. In the five-inning win against Waukegan, winning pitcher Jack Ellis tossed a no-hitter. Lombard Lightning 16 won both ends of a doubleheader at Highland Park while Loyola and Waukegan split a Saturday doubleheader. The Niles Braves Red offense stayed hot in a doubleheader sweep of its Niles Braves Blue counterpart. Braves Red used a fourteen hit attack and some shoddy Blue defense to post an improbable 21-16 win in game one. Bobby DeLeonardis tossed a four hit shutout in the 13-0 game two victory. Lake Forest broke open a 6-6 tie to top Highland Park 13-7. J.R. Reimer went five innings to earn the victory. Niles Braves Red edged Loyola in a wild 16-15 game. |
